TITO
Tito is one of the most prestigious ceramic artisans in Spain, he has even been recognized as the best craftsman in Spain, for 2006. They come from a Village called Úbeda en the province of Jaen, in Andalusia.
He basically hand makes these reproductions of traditional Andalusia ceramic, in other words the popular style that was used in the countryside during many centuries.
The normal style had only one colour, normally, the green, and sometimes mustard, blue or cream. In 2006 he creates what he has called the "Repintado" style, which means repainted. What he does is make the pieces in the cream colour, and repaints them with these vivid colours and then they cooked the pieces again. So you can see these marvelous colored pieces, which are an exceptional pieces of art work.
As you can see there are two basic styles. The classical and the "Repintado".
As I told you before his classical style comes in four different basic colors, green, blue, beige and mustard. Plus all the pieces can come "Calado" or normal. The "Calado" is the cut out work you can see in the pictures. Want they do is let the ceramic dry a little for a few days and then cut it out, it's a tremendous amount of work.
In the classical style you might think they have two colors, well NO. Want they do is soak the pieces in the color enamel and after carve away the paint until the natural color of the ceramic comes out, really extraordinary art work. That's why every single piece is totally different you will never have two pieces a like.
The bottom line is that everything is possible in any size, any color or any style. Some craftsmen have moles, so all the plates come out in the exactly same size, but these Artisan hand throw every single piece. So the chose is infinite. As these plates are all hand thrown, they can’t be flat, they are slightly concave. The larger the plate is, more concave it has to be, if not it can’t be made.
